ANNOUNCING: One Year Blog Anniversary!

One year ago (actually 2 days ago) we published our very first blog post. If you click on the link you'll see the post is dated March 26, but all the comments are dated April 4. This is because we wrote the first post on March 26 and had no clue that you could schedule the post for a later date. We wanted the first post to go up on April 4, so on April 4 we just clicked "Publish Post" and assumed that date would appear. Oops. We just hoped that was not some kind of bad omen for the blog.

Some of the people who left a comment on that first post still leave comments now. Whether you were with us on Opening Day or found us later, we're very grateful you've been part of this journey with us.

We want to explain some of the Announcement Clues we've been leaving for the past few weeks:

Announcement Clue # 1 - In that post, I wrote about how Brad and I had been dating for a while. We asked different people how you know you're in Love, with a capital "L". One clue was the last part of the last sentence:
"Then we started hearing things like, 'Most gay relationships don't last that long under the best of circumstances. And at your age, it would be a miracle if you're still together after one year.' WTF? We were just asking how you know if you're 'in love' with somebody, and already people are making predictions that we won't last one year!"

People were actually saying that the chances that our relationship lasting a year were slim, primarily because of our age. Well, not only did we make it to that first year, we're getting ready to celebrate our second anniversary (of meeting each other) next month!

So, the clue for the Announcement is "one year." Get it? I know, pretty obscure and lame, but it's there! LOL

The second clue in that post is the sentence,
"That first year was definitely worth all the work and required a lot of communication."

Announcement Clue # 2 - In this post, Brad used the word "follow" or "following" a number of times. This refers to you, our readers.

But a blog like ours is a two-way street. Just as you follow us, we've also followed your comments to us, and we've gotten a lot of wise and supportive words from you. That's what Brad meant when he wrote,
"We found ourselves following a lot of the advice that sounded solid and wise."
Announcement Clue # 3 - In that post, I wrote,

"...I've found a tremendous benefit from writing what I'm thinking about and what I'm feeling. When I write things out, I can always see what's going on inside me at lot better, then I can figure things out or talk about it with Brad or other people I trust."
Several times in that post I referred to how important "writing" has been to me. We both have benefited from thinking about some really important issues in our relationship and then sitting down and putting those thoughts and feelings into words.

My last sentence in that post reiterated this:

"...I'd highly recommend keeping a journal or finding some similar way to write out what's happening to you. For me, it's always led to much clearer thinking."

We both want to take this opportunity to Thank You for helping make our blog what it is today and we look forward to seeing you as we enter our second year!

Love you all, Matt and Brad

  1. Which shows I wasn't there from the start or I might have guessed this one. CONGRATULATIONS.

Ah, that first week of April. My first book had just come out and I was completely at sea in that place called the Internet. And you guys were just testing the waters. Small world. I'm glad I washed up on your shores fairly soon after.

May your blog long endure, and may your love outlast it to the end of your days.

And I still think you should get an owl.

    ((hugs to you both))

  3. Had I been in a better frame of mind the past week I may have figured this one out..then again maybe not lol CONGRATULATIONS!!!! I am so very thankful everyday to have found your blog! It takes a lot of strength and courage to share the things you do here with a world full of strangers! You are both two very special people to allow us to see a bit of the love you share with each other and to let us peek into your lives. There is no doubt in my mind that your blog has touched more people than you probably even realize! It is full of inspiration and hope and even through the hard times you have shown that love and communication will pull you through it if you just take the time to listen to one another!! The love you have for each other is truly amazing and it's what many people in this world long for but never find. Through this blog, you have shown us all that love like that does exist and it is possible to find it. Thank you both so much for sharing your lives with us and for continuing to do so!! I wish you both all the love and happiness together!

    1. Hey JJ. Thanks! In addition to leaving a number of supportive comments, you've been our unofficial Blog Editor.

I remember one post where I used the words "lose" and "loose" incorrectly, which I guess is not a felony, but I used both those words interchangeably about 15 times in the post (including the title), and you sent me an email gently letting me know what I had done. I was so appreciative you did that.

Then you offered to answer any questions we might have about grammar or punctuation, which we've taken advantage of on more than one occation, since none of this is my forte.

I think I finally know when to use "Brad and I" vs "Me and Brad", etc.

Though just for the record, ANY spelling, grammar, or punctuation errors remains ours. If I had to write you for every question I had, your Inbox would be packed full each morning, and I don't want to risk going in your Spam Box!! LOL

  5. Hi Matt,

You and Brad do have a fabulous blog. When I first posted here on my birthday in March, it was after taking 2 days to reread the entire blog. I was exhausted, but it was so worth it. The love you have for each other shines through every one of your posts. We are all so lucky to have you both here, sharing yourselves with us.

So, congratulations on your 1-year anniversary, guys. And let's not forget, congrats also on your upcoming 2-year anniversary on meeting the loves of your lives! May both anniversaries continue for a long, long time.

  9. My dear sweet friends,

just a few short months ago I stumbled on to this blog--I had never posted on a blog before--had ever even read a blog before. I cannot remember the first message I left--but I can remember when I bookmarked your page--when I put it across the top of my computer screen making it possible to find you with the click of a button. I remember distinctly because I had written this--it is silly--I know--I barely knew you both--but nonetheless right after I put your link on my favorites bar I pulled up a word file and wrote this:

    I met some friends today
Their love shines in the darkness
Their gentle spirits call to me
My soul finds rest in their company

That was it--just those 4 lines--I have kept them in a file--a place where I go to write about the two of you--when your beautiful souls reach out to mine and love is born--then I write--I write of the love you have for each other...of the love you share with us.

A whole year of sharing your lives with us...of showing us how love can grow with gentle nurturing and careful pruning--how arguments can make one stronger, and sadness draw hearts closer...

A year of discoveries...of growing up...and growing stronger...
A year that brought its share of pain--that was weathered in each others arms--sheltered deep within your love.

A year of finding new friends and caring for old ones--adding steadily to your circle that is now so full

A year with family and new beginnings. healing relationships and starting again, trusting those whom you love to finally love you in return...

And a year in which the spark you first saw in each other's eyes has grown to a flame that burns bright and true--no storm can quench it...no wind snuff it out...love has burned it's mark into each of you, reshaping you into a loving force that shines so very brightly.

And we have been here to see it all...

And yet--here--when I need words the most--they escape me--for how to express the depth of my love...my heart...how to tell two young men how very proud I am of them...how very remarkable I find them to be...how much they have come to mean to me and so many others...words fail me...

And so I shall leave you with this...for this is what I see in my mind's eye when I think of the two of you...

Come lie with me my love
Close the curtain, shut out the world
Let me hold you in my arms
Caress your face, brush back your hair,
And look into your eyes of love.

    There--there are words...meant just for you...Happy Anniversary!

I know I should post something light and funny--so please forgive me--but as I sit here--I cannot thank you enough for your kindness to us--for the love you both have shown us. Thank you...you are so kind to me--so very kind.
